Boston Fire Houses

For those of you planning your new fire house, and are still not sure which design will suit your needs, Bill Noonan came up with a few more.  How about the Bowdoin Square design for your new headquarters.

 Boston firehouses:

Bowdoin Square...opened in Nov 1930 and home to Engine Co. 4, Engine Co. 6, Ladder Co. 24, Rescue Co. 3, Water Tower 1, Chief of District 4...later Ladder Co. 1 and Engine Co. 10 while their firehouses were being built..closed 1963 to make way for the Goverment Center and the people who ordered that this firehouse should be closed should be shot..but most of them are already dead.....

Fort Hill Square, home of Engine Co. 25 and Ladder Co. 8..also at times Rescue Co. 1 and Water Tower 1 and Deputy Chief of Division 1....opened 1874 and colsed in 1952......

Engine Co. 42 and  Chemical Co 5 later Ladder Co. 30, Egleston Square, Roxbury....closed early 1950's..under the EL structure...the EL is gone and so is the firehouse..

Engine Co. 21..641 Columbia Road..Dorchester..opened 1926 and still in service..

Engine Co. 37 and Chemical Co. 3..Longwood and Brookline Ave., Roxbury...opened 1890--1933, also home later to Ladder Co. 26

Engine Co. 13..Cabot Street, Roxbury..opened 1864 and closed in 1938...long gone...

Ladder Co. 4...198 Dudley Street, Roxbury..build for Engine Co. 12 but Ladder Co. 4 moved here to be closer to central Roxbury...

Engine Co. 10...River and Mt. Vernon Streets, bottom of Beacon Hill...1864 to 1946....new house built on same spot but that has now been abandoned...

Ladder Co. 4...very old house on Eustis Street, Roxbury...former Roxbury Fire Department house but it is still standing...Chemical Co. 10 als responded  from this house....closed many years ago....
