Hi there!

The last St Patrick's Day Parade that took place a couple of weeks ago was actually my first St Patrick's Day Parade of my entire life. My family has deep Irish roots and although the family has already given birth to 4 generations in a Spanish speaking country, we all still consider ourselves Irish. I moved to the States 2 yrs ago. The Irish community where I'm coming from is huge. But there are no St. Patrick's Day parades there like the ones in here. The Irish community celebrates with dinners, parties, Irish stews and dances, and visits to the city Irish pubs. But that's it...

Anyway, that was not what I wanted to say. What I really wanted to say is that if anybody would ask me what was the thing I enjoyed the most about the parade, I have to say that it wasn't the bands, the bagpipes or the dancers. It was the DFD Clowns. That was GREAT! I had so much fun. And I find the idea that you guys have an entire division of clowns really amazing and extraordinary. You guys not only give your lives to people you hardly know as 'part of the job'. You also make people smile because of something so incredible like that. I always admired firefighters. Now I have another reason to admire them even more.

Because of my job I had to work close to some firefighters and safety people for about 4 hrs. A person can learn so much about life just by sharing some experiences or time with firefighters. People tend to think that it's just dealing with some hoses, water and making noise with a firetruck. They are so blind...! Some people needed something like an unfortunate 9/11 to understand and finally see...

Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you so much to all of you for giving your time and lives to people like me that you don't even know and give you in return at least something small like sharing a couple of pictures from the parade. Find them attached. Please let me know if you have any problems to open or download the zipped file. There is one picture that would need some enhancement. I did my best with the tools and software I have. But perhaps someone can do something better with it if they have the tools.

Muchisimas gracias una vez mas y que tengan un muy lindo dia!
(Thank you so much once again and have a very nice day!)

Keep smiling!

Mariana

PS: Do you guys have a schedule for programs and/or events where the clowns go to and participate and where families could go and see them?
