BARFF is a group of retired Detroit Firefighters living near the Mackinaw bridge. We are presently working with the Cheboygan city government to place a 911 memorial in Washington park to honor the 343 New York firefighters who gave their lives during the terrorist attack on that city. We plan to have a large black marble stone erected at the base of the flag pole. Joe Haig has volunteered to do the flag stone around that base. On the stone will be that now famous picture of the flag raising by NYFD members. This will be etched in the stone by a local artist along with appropriate words. When all plans are finalized , we will be hoping for donations. We are looking at a cost of around $ 2800 to $ 3000 dollars. Any help would be appreciated to get this project done. We owe so much to those New York Firefighters.
