 MORE AND THERE WAS A BETTER CHANCE OF THE SUCTION WEARING A HOLE IN ITSELF.

BEFORE THE RIGS HAD AIR HOOKUPS TO PUMP OUT A HYDRANT THERE WERE HYDRANT RIGS

AT THE BEGINNING OF THE HYDRANT SEASON EACH BATTALION GOT TO USE THE RIG FOR ONE DAY.

 IF YOU WENT IN WITH ANOTHER COMPANY YOU COULD USE IT TWO DAYS

THEY WERE ASSIGNED TO FIRE PREVENTION AS INSPECTORS CARS WHEN NOT USED FOR

 HYDRANTS

IT HAD AN ELECTRIC AIR COMPRESSOR IN THE TRUNK.


THE GUYS WOULD PUMP HYDRANTS FROM SUNUP TO SUNDOWN.

BACK THEN THE WHIPPER SNAPPERS" WOULD PUMP OUT THE HYDRANTS AFTER A FIRE YEAR ROUND.
 
BEING A YOUNG "WHIPPER SNAPPER" DURING THAT ERA I NEVER SAW THEM,  I HAD TO GET

 THIS INFORMATION FROM ONE OF OUR RETIREES
